Armor plating
Helipark has developed a unique armor plating system for helicopters, which offers the best compromise between ballistic resistance, weight and thickness. By studying angles, firing distances, the location of occupants, the resistance of materials to the effects of time and especially weight, it was possible to reach a solution that combines effective protection and flight safety. Although lightweight, the material is able to withstand the 7.62 X51mm rounds used in the FAL rifle, fired at a distance of 49ft. The first aircraft to feature the technology was an H-34 Super Puma of the Brazilian Air Force, which seats 26 passengers and is used for special operations. Helipark installed armor plating in the seats, doors, floor and sides and the project was approved by the Technical Centre for Aerospace Technology (CTA), which conducted the ballistics tests. |
